Is Lesnar another Kimbo?Posted by Admin Take a good long look at Brock Lesnar. With that enormous frame and sword tattooed on his abdomen it’s hard not to notice how intimidating he is. Surely he’s not a man to be trifled with. But the same was said about Kimbo Slice. And we all know how Kimbo’s MMA career turned out. With a UFC record of just 1-1, Lesnar is taking quite a risk in his headline fight against Frank Mir at UFC 100. He’s already lost to Mir once and his lone win was against an over-the-hill Randy Couture. If he succumbs to Mir in the same manner he did in their previous bout, he runs the risk of being nothing more than a MMA sideshow…like Kimbo has become. However, Lesnar has something that Slice never had—an amazing wrestling background. Not the cheesy, over-the-top wrestling you see in the WEC. I’m talking about actual collegiate level wrestling. In fact in 2000 he went on to win the NCAA wrestling championship, which is no small feat. Along with kickboxing and jiu-jitsu, wrestling is one of the three main components of mixed martial arts. When Kimbo Slice burst onto the scene he had nothing more than a hard head and some rudimentary boxing skills. It’s not hard to see why his MMA career has been less than stellar. Lesnar, on the other hand, has the background it takes to succeed in the UFC. Even if he goes on to lose to Mir, Lesnar his going to be around for quite some time. |
