Another MMA Star Takes On Hollywood

hollywood sign

In yet another sign that mixed martial arts is becoming more and more mainstream, another MMA super star has joined the ranks of fighters trading in the octagon for the sound stage.

Andrei “the Pit Bull” Arlovski has just hit the web as the new baddie in previews for the latest installment in Jean Claude Van Damme’s Universal Soldier series. Arlovski joins a growing list of other MMA super stars to star on the silver screen including Gina Carano (Steven Soderbergh’s Knockout), Randy Couture (Red Belt), Chuck Liddell (Cradle 2 the Grave, Entourage, Dancing With the Stars) and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (The A-Team).

Contrary to what many MMA insiders and diehard fans are saying, this latest development is great for the future of MMA. In order to continue to deliver great fights, organizations such as the UFC and Strikeforce need to grow and become more of a mainstream sport. With more and more people seeing MMA stars on the big screen there is a much greater chance of that occurring.

Let’s just hope that the Pitbull’s movie fairs better than he did in his last bout against Brett Rogers.
