Five Things We Learned From Season 10 of THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER.

Kimbo Slice and Roy Nelson

This season’s installment of The Ultimate Fighter on SpikeTV had its ups and downs. After touting Kimbo in seemingly every single commercial the show aired, the YouTube sensation was beaten in just the third episode of the show. A Kimbo comeback that never even happened was then dangled in front of our noses like a carrot stick for the remainder of the season. It also had a few other surprises. Here are the Top 5 Things We Learned From The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights.

5. Team Rampage was out coached.

For years, Rampage Jackson has been a force to be reckoned with. But he’s now 0-2 as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter and this season his team didn’t win a match until the very last preliminary fight! You can write off a couple of losses as a fluke, but when it happens seven straight times something’s amiss.

4. Kimbo Slice is one hell of a cool dude.
The menacing glare. The enormous fist necklace. And of course – THE BEARD! It all makes Kimbo Slice look like the baddest dude on the planet. But over the course of 12 weeks, we got to see another side of Kimbo Slice. He’s a family man at heart and wants to be in the UFC more than anything. He was also one of the few guys in the house who everyone liked and he didn’t start or cause any trouble. He’s the real life Rocky Balboa and we all rooted for him.

3. Size does not matter.
Our apologies to the manufacturers of a certain male enhancement drug, but TUF: Heavyweights taught us that it doesn’t matter how big you are. Marcus “Big Baby” Jones was one of the early favorites and impressed with his first round submission of Mike Wessel. But two straight KOs by Brendan Schaub and Matt Mitrione proved the big man has a bit of a glass jaw.

2. The coaches need to focus on cardio!
How many times did we see a seemingly great fight ruined by the fighters’ inability to perform when tired? It happened in nearly every fight of the season. Some say heavyweights have a harder time strengthening their cardiovascular system, but C’MON! If you wanna’ compete in the UFC you have to be able to last more than one round.

1. Fat guys can fight.

He may not be flashy but Roy “Big Country” Nelson proved that one can fight in the octagon even if you look like you work at a bowling alley. The man with the big belly easily defeated Kimbo Slice, won a majority decision over Justin Wren, TKOed James McSweeney then smoked the heavy handed Brendan Schaub in the finale. Our hats are off to you Mr. Nelson. You truly are the next Ultimate Fighter.
