Baseball has the Yankees. Football has the Cowboys. And basketball has the Lakers. All dominant (or at least once dominant) franchises with as many detractors as fans.

As the fastest growing sport in the world, the UFC needs someone like Lesnar. Love him or hate him, the man causes tons of debate in the sporting world. And that’s a good thing.

The fact is Lesnar is a major star now. He’s the lead story on ESPN, FoxSports and other sport programs. Just last week he was interviewed on the SportsGuy podcast, which is currently one of the most downloaded podcasts on iTunes.

This, of course, leads to more coverage for MMA. More fans are likely to tune into the next bout. And with more fans comes more advertisers. With more advertisers throwing their money in the pot, the more money the UFC has to promote the sport and pay their best athletes.

It’s truly a win-win for us all.
