Training on the Road

Image of bicep after hotel room workout

It happens to everyone. You go away on business or vacation and your accommodations don’t have a gym. What to do?

The most obvious answer is to go for a nice jog. But if you’re in an unfamiliar city it may be wise to stay close to the hotel. Here then are a few exercises you can do from the comfort of your suite.

1. Push Ups.
Yes…this is pretty obvious. But add some pizzazz to you workout by putting your feet up on your bed or a chair and do some incline push ups. If you can find a chair with wheels…even better! The effort it takes to keep the chair steady will help your core muscles a bit.

2. Hindu Squats.
They may seem like nothing at first. But they pack a mean punch! If you’re not familiar with these quad burning exercises check out how to do them here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPSVpo4mzNI

3. Leg lifts.
Again, this is an obvious solution, but you’d be surprised how many people overlook them. Add another dimension to the exercise by grabbing under a chair and swinging your legs back and to the right then back and to the left. It will help your obloquies as well as your lower abs.

4. Tricep Dips
These may be a little harder to perform, but I’ll suggest them anyway. If you can, try and find a solid chair in your hotel room. Position it in front of your bed or dresser. Put your feet up on the bed/dresser and perform the dips. Go slowly at first because it may be hard to judge the stability of the chair.

These simple exercises are never going to turn you into a champion MMA fighter or action sport athlete. However, their great when you’re in a pinch and will remind your muscles they’re still there.
