Rivalries are great for sports.

Baseball has Yankees/Red Sox. Basketball has Celtics/Lakers. And Football has Dallas/Everyone else. Great rivalries help the sport grow. Here are 5 current MMA rivalries poised to send Mixed Martial Arts into the stratosphere.

Rampage Jackson/Rashad Evans

They may have only fought one time thus far, but these two HATE each other. They HATE each other so much that I had to go all caps on you. Rampage has definitely won the war of words in interviews and on TUF. But Evans won their first fight. They’re not scheduled to meet each other anytime soon, but the rivalry is too big for the UFC to pass up. They’ll figure out a way to make it happen.

Frank Mir/Brock Lesnar

Mir has a way to go before he earns a rematch with Lesnar. But the match has to happen. In fact, Mir recently said he wants to break Lesnar’s neck so Lesnar becomes the first UFC fighter to die in the octagon. That kind of talk virtually assures a rematch at some point.

Diaz Brothers/Everyone

Is there anyone the Diaz brothers don’t quarrel with? Mayhem Miller, the Shamrocks, Diego Sanchez, you name it. These guys know how to stir up controversy and sell a fight. Love 'em or hate 'em, they're good for MMA.

Lyoto Machida/Mauricio Rua

Currently, the series stands at 1-1. Although most MMA fans agree, it should be 2-0 in favor of Rua. However, Machida is too good not to earn another title shot. Will Rua still hold the belt when he finally does? Only time will tell.

Anderson Silva/Chael Sonnen

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks you know about the war of words between Sonnen and Silva prior to UFC 117. You also probably know about the beating Silva took over four rounds before making an improbably comeback to submit Sonnen in round five. There is no question this fight will happen sometime next year.
