Strikeforce Heavyweight Tournament the Wave of the Future?Posted by danb Questions remain about Strikeforce World Grand Prix Heavyweight Tournament. No matter who they sign or what they do, Strikeforce just can’t seem to catch up to the UFC. However, the new tournament format may help them close the gap. Let’s face it, the UFC has better fighters on their roster. But Strikeforce has some greats as well. In order to keep up with the UFC, Strikeforce had to do something drastic. This tournament may just be it. But it’s not without its pitfalls. There are some uncertainties surrounding the tournament. For example, the absence of a seeding system seems a little strange. Also, current Strikeforce champ, Allistair Overeem will take on the winner of the tournament in October for all the marbles. However, Overeem is also in the tournament. Who does he fight if he wins the whole thing? Himself? Tune in this Saturday on Showtime when it all kicks off with a bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. |
